Escaping the Summer Sales Slump
Summer sales on Teachers Pay Teachers are usually slow. It can be discouraging, especially if your just getting started.
In all of July, my sales are what I normally make in a week during most other months.
But the wise move is not to give up or check out, because the Fall is coming!
The Fall is full of excitement for teachers. They are optimistic about the start of the year, and ready for new and different activities. Fall sales are typically higher than other times of the year. They are so good that TpT throws a storewide sale to drive sales numbers up even higher.
Something Else to Consider
This year (2020) many schools will be opening virtually or in a blended form of online and in-person learning. It would be wise to consider this as you get your store ready for the Fall.
How to Prepare for the Fall
As mentioned above, August is coming! August and September sales are typically strong!
How can we get ready? We want to position ourselves and our store to do well during this time. This will be one of your best opportunities for the whole year, so let’s prepare properly.
Here are a few things you can do to put your store in a good position for the Back to School windfall.
Take Advantage of the Sale
Teachers Pay Teachers does a back to school, store-wide sale in the Fall. Make sure you are reading the TpT newsletter that they email fairly regularly so that you know when it is and what to do.
If you’ve never seen the TpT newsletter in your email, check your spam folder and mark them as safe. They will email you when their sale is coming and communicate with you as to how to participate in the sale.
The store-wide sale will be widely promoted, so you will automatically see an increase in traffic. Simply completing the steps to participate in the sale will help you get more sales.
Create products specifically designed for back to school
Do you have any great resources that you use for the first week of school, room decoration, or parent contact? Here are some common ones:
- A get to know you worksheet
- A fabulous syllabus
- An information form to send to parents
- Bulletin board or word wall images
- First day of school activities
- Newsletter Templates
- Google Classroom virtual room
Back to school activities do really well in the Fall, especially when TpT throws it’s sale. If you have anything, start working on creating it, and then promoting it. Don’t forget to make it a featured product on your TpT store.
Digital Activities
Right now, a lot of schools will have distance learning again. I am of the opinion that distance learning might be here for a while. So create some products that can be done virtually, like inside of Google Classroom, Boom cards, etc.
Remember that TpT has a new program that will convert single page PDF’s into digital activities for you. You can find it on the homepage.
Inside my online course, “Your First $1,000 on Teachers Pay Teachers,” I show teachers how to create products for their TpT stores, and how to make them Google Classroom ready.
Digital products can be a great resource in your store. And considering what school might look like moving forward, there’s a good chance that digital products will do very well in your store.
Work on Getting More Traffic
A great way to increase sales is to get more potential customers to your store. To do this, you need to increase your digital presence on social media.
I also recommend starting a blog. A blog is a great way to get a lot of traffic to your TpT store, and you can start one for as little as $4 a month. I have a free, video-based, online course that will walk you threw the steps of creating a blog for your Teachers Pay Teachers Store. Click here to learn more.
