Email marketing is one of the most profitable forms of marketing and will help TpT Sellers get more traffic and make more sales. Here are some tips to help make your email marketing more effective.
1 Make it Personal
The goal is to get your readers to know like and trust you. Sharing personal stories, information, and
pictures will help do this. Don’t share anything you don’t want the whole world to know, but share your
struggles, your successes, things that will endear your readers to you, make them say, ‘that’s my guy.’
2 Remember, You’re the Guide, They’re the Hero
This is from Donald Miller’s book: Building a Story Brand, where he reminds us that our customers are
the heroes who overcome an obstacle to obtain their goal. We are the wise guides who equip and
motivate them to face their battles. They are Luke Skywalker, we are Yoda. Use this type of language in
the body of your emails.
3 Tell Stories
Steve Jobs famously said, “The storyteller is the most powerful person in the Universe.”
Remember how Steve Jobs became a billionaire? It wasn’t working for Apple (though that did make it
him a multi-millionaire. It was after he was released from Apple, and he purchased Pixar. That’s how he
became a billionaire, learning the art of story telling.
Stories are foundational to human beings. We have told stories for thousands of years. We love them.
Tell stories about
- Your product
- Your teaching (successes and failures)
- Fun or funny things that happened at school
- Teacher Struggles
- Tell stories that teach a skill or lesson
- Tell stories to let your audience get to know you better
4 Focus on the Benefits, not the Features
The old adage is true, show don’t tell. When writing your emails, paint a picture of your product working
and your reader being successful with her students. Don’t describe the features.

5 Serve
Henry Ford’s autobiography (get it, “auto” biography!) is littered with this word. It’s almost on every
page. He writes, “Everything I do is to make people’s lives better.”
Your email needs to provide value to the readers.
They should be a better teacher because they have read your emails (without having purchased
anything)
Share teaching strategies, classroom management tips, resources, etc.
Anything you give advice to someone at school, write it down, make it an email
6 Highlight the Pain
You will have better open rates, responses, and eventually more sales if you connect emotionally with
your subscribers. The best way to do that is to speak to their pain. Paint the picture of their pain, and
offer strategies on how to solve.
7 Try to Write One Email for Every Product
The email should not say, “I have a new product, click here” and have an image of it.
Instead, paint the picture of the problem your product solves and offer advice on how to fix this issue.
Then offer your product as a solution, a shortcut, or a time saver.
8 Turn these Emails into Blog Posts
You are already writing long-form content. The amount of work it will take to turn this into a blog is
minimal. Then you can add the benefits of SEO to your posts.
9 Have a Call to Action in Every Email
Try to have your readers take an action in every email. Read a post, listen to a podcast, leave a review,
download a freebie, purchase something, etc.
By doing this, you are training your audience to take action when they read your emails. This will help
them be more likely to take the ultimate action you want them to take, which is to make a purchase.
