Every TpT seller needs these three things if they want to make more money, regardless of if you’re just beginning or if you’re already making four plus figures a month.

1 – Good Products

Having high quality resources that help teachers is paramount.

They need to add value, save time, support student needs and they should look good.

There are many resources to TpT, and AI is coming (it will soon be able to create many of the resources we make and sell). So how will your products stand out from the rest? Why should a teacher purchase yours over the other options?

The answer is value.

Your resources need to provide value. Keep your end user, the teacher, in mind. What’s going to help them the most?

2 – Traffic

You will not make any sales, no matter how good your TpT products are,  if no one sees them.

How can we get eyeballs on our products?

There are actually a lot of things you can do. So we’re going to break them into two categories – organic and active traffic.

Organic Traffic

Organic traffic is eyeballs on your TpT products that don’t require your constant work. For example, if I make a Pin or write a blog post, once I’ve created it, it continues to exist and does the work for me.

But how do people find my blog post, Pin, or even my TpT product organically (without me posting it on social media or emailing it to my followers)? They find them through organic searches on the internet.

Searches on the internet are mostly done on search engines, like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and in our case, the TpT Search bar.

You want to rank well on these searches, so you need to optimize your posts for a high ranking. This is called SEO; Search Engine Optimization.

Here are some easy things you can optimize to ensure you get lots of organic results.

Product Titles

Your TpT product titles need to be keyword rich, so that they appear in search engines when people are searching for those type of resources.

Think of how someone might interact with a search engine, like Google or the ToT search bar, when they’re looking for resources. What words and phrases might they type? Your product should have those words (same with your blog post).

Product Descriptions

Your product description will give the search engines more information they can use to optimize searches for your product. So make sure that your product descriptions are keyword rich, and answer a lot of the questions your potential customers are asking.

Cover Images

Believe it or not, good cover images will go a long way in getting you more clicks.

When someone searches for a resource, they will see lots of results. Often, these results will include your cover image, especially if they’re searching on TeachersPayTeachers.com.

A good cover image and title will make a huge difference in what resources people click on.

Pinterest

While often seen as a social media platform, Pinterest actually is a large search engine that can yield you great results for your TpT resources. So post pins to your products, blog posts, and anything else correlated to your business.

Blogging

Having a blog is a great way to centralize your business. It will build legitimacy and get lots of organic traffic to your product, email opt-in, and other resources. Having a blog allows you to cast a large net across the world wide web, and draw in the ideal customers. Then, from your website, you can direct them to the best things for them.

Active Traffic

Active traffic refers to efforts that require consistent work, like email marketing and social media marketing. This type of traffic is generated through direct promotion and engagement with your audience. It can be paid or unpaid.

Social Media Marketing

Perhaps the most common and popular form of active marketing is through social media. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others are a great, free way to grow your audience, build your brand, and get more traffic to your products or subscribers to your email list.

If you have an online business, like selling TpT products, I strongly recommend you have at least one social media platform. I recommend Facebook above all of the others, because it is the largest and most profitable of them all.

However, just because I am saying Facebook is the best place to build an audience, doesn’t mean that it’s the best place for you. So build your audience on any social media platform that you are familiar with and that you like. Build one on the platform you’re already using. But build one!

Facebook Groups

I think Facebook Groups are the greatest place on the internet to build a large, curated, audience that fall in love with your brand and gobble up your products.

Groups are a unique thing on the internet, which is why they’re so popular. Having a group will increase your authority, make you a leader in your niche, and get you lots of traffic to your TpT store.

I have a large Facebook group for math teachers. It has done all of the above for me and greatly increased my income.

Conversions

You can have lots of traffic to wonderful TpT products, but if you can’t convert any of your viewers into customers, you will not earn any money.

To convert customers into buyers, you need a few things.

A great product description

We already mentioned this above, but a great product description will explain what your product is, highlight all of it’s benefits to the potential customer, and answer all of their questions while tearing down any objections they might have.

This requires good copywriting.

Great Preview File and Thumbnail Images

These two pieces, though different, will do much of what a good product description does, except in a more aesthetically appealing platform; images.

Your thumbnails and preview file will make a huge difference in your conversions. So make them count.
